Note from Ted Higgins

 Dear Friends..........

We are seeking your help. Your Young At Heart Senior Center is experiencing sustained growth driven by the miners boom here is Sweetwater County. Unfortunately, coupled with this growth is the deterioration of the existing building, caused by both space limitations and subsurface conditions( water in basement, mold, etc).

The need for a new center is both chronic and acute. YAH has engaged in planning processes for over five years, during which time the suitability of the building for its present uses has deteriorated further. It is possible that we could be issued a no occupancy letter at any time.

The new center is vital. Informal population estimates for Rock Springs are in the 26,00 to 28,000 range, 2a 30- 40% increase just since the last cencus in 2000, less than 6 years ago. With this increased population comes our share of new seniors moving into the area to be with family, as well as the increases occuring from retirements from the plants.

A new center will incorporate room design and storage to meet the YAH modern mission of enabling seniors to remain in their own homes as long as possible, and empower the staff to more fully fulfill their roles in support of seniors through advanced design.

Our purpose is to ask for your help financially. Any and all contributions are greatly appreciated. We are pursuing   a $ 5 milliongrant from the state for a new center. The overall project is estimated a $9 million. Both the city of Rock Springs and Sweetwater County have pledged $1 million. Thios leaves us $ 2 million to raise privately. If you are willing, please send your check to the Building Fund at Young At Heart Senior Center.

Every little bit helps.

Thank You for considering our request, and call us if you have any questions.

Cordially,

Sam Blackwell
